About

How this directory is built

Short version: we swept Ontario with Google's Places data, read every candidate's own website, and kept only the businesses for which accessibility work is the business rather than a sideline. Nobody pays to be here.

How businesses get listed

  1. A wide sweep

Nearly 500 searches across Ontario for stairlift, elevator, ramp, walk-in tub, grab bar, doorway widening and aging-in-place work, de-duplicated down to about 4,000 distinct businesses.

  2. Website verification

Every candidate's own website was fetched and checked for evidence that they actually do the work. That cut roughly 4,000 to a few hundred.

  3. A specialist filter

Then the harder cut: is this accessibility work, or a plumber who mentions an accessible shower? Bath remodelling franchises, plumbing companies, hardware stores, home care agencies, medical transport and rehab clinics all come out at this stage. What's left is 138 businesses.

  4. A monthly check for new ones

A narrower sweep runs monthly to catch businesses that have opened or become findable since. Businesses can also ask to be added.

What we don't do

What we're honest about being unsure of

The funding pages flag every place where the official information is unclear or contradictory — HVMP's income limit and its $15,000 cap, whether tax credits can be stacked, and the fact that Ontario Renovates has no single provincial answer to any question. We'd rather say "we couldn't confirm this" than publish a confident number that costs someone weeks.

Corrections

If something here is wrong — a business that's closed, moved, or that we've described badly — tell us and we'll fix it. That includes businesses who'd rather not be listed at all.
