Your situationWhere to look, in order
Just need a stairlift Not ADP. HVMP first, if there’s a mobility impairment and the income fits → Ontario Renovates (60+ or disabled, local caps) → claim HATC at tax time. Many families end up paying out of pocket and claiming HATC only.
Bathroom and doorway changes HVMP covers roll-in showers, grab bars and widened doorways → Ontario Renovates handles this well within its $25,000 → HATC on what you pay.
Full home accessibility renovation Ontario Renovates is the biggest single pot → HVMP adds more → HATC up to $3,000. Apply to Ontario Renovates first, because HVMP requires other funding to be used up.
A wheelchair, walker or scooter itself ADP — this is exactly what it’s for. Around 75%, via an OT or PT authorizer and a registered vendor.
Ramp only HVMP or Ontario Renovates. Not ADP.
Home elevator or vertical platform lift Not ADP. HVMP may cover a basic platform lift; full elevators usually aren’t funded and are out of pocket plus HATC.
Medical alert system None of these programs fund them. Sometimes claimable as a medical expense — check with a tax preparer. See our medical alert page.
Low income, owe no income tax Prioritise HVMP and Ontario Renovates. HATC is non-refundable and will do nothing for you.
